Danny Pires Scholarship Award 2016

In November, the annual Steak and Burger Night took place in Acushnet, MA to benefit the New Bedford Boys and Girls Club. Each year at this event, Matt Light honors the late Danny Pires for all his work and The Pires family carries on his legacy by giving back to kids who need it. The Light Foundation sponsors this scholarship and Matt was able to present two more deserving students with the award. Three additional students were chosen as runner-ups and all five finalists were treated to the Patriots game against the Jets at the end of the season. It's always a privilege to help kids further their academic dreams in Danny Pires honor. This means a lot to Matt as he considered Danny to be one of the best in the sports reporting world and a very dear friend.

Congratulations to all our finalists!!

Danny Pires Scholarship Award 2015

On November 16, the New Bedford Boys and Girls Club hosted the 21st Annual Steak and Burger Night at The Century House in Acushnet, MA. This fundraising event honors Club members by not only raising money for their Club, but also by serving them a special steak dinner - while the adults dine on burgers and fries.

Matt Light was once again in attendance to sign autographs and to present two deserving High School seniors with the Dan Pires Memorial Scholarships. These scholarships are funded by The Light Foundation every year and this year were given to Reaghan Tripp of Westport, MA and Madelene Gedeon of New Bedford, MA. Five runner up finalists were also chosen and they were Cory Teves, Meighread Dandeneau, Dana Conceicao, Aiane Durham and Casandra Abgra. All seven will be going with a chaperon to the Patriots game against the Titans in December.

Congratulations to all the winners this year! We are proud to support you!
